Isle of Wight County Volunteer Rescue Squad is looking for CNU students
The Isle of Wight County Volunteer Rescue Squad is looking for CNU students that are interested in volunteering as ambulance drivers and Emergency Medical Technicians. The Rescue Squad is located in Smithfield, Virginia, and is 25 minutes from the campus. The Squad currently has ten students that volunteer regularly and provide emergency medical services to county residents.
In order to qualify for membership, an individual has to have completed CPR (specifically the American Heart Association's CPR course for health care providers) and be certified as an Emergency Vehicle Operator and/or as an Emergency Medical Technician. The squad will pay for this training. CPR is next scheduled for Saturday, August 23 from 9am-2pm. The next EMT training will begin Thursday evening, September 4 at 5pm at the Squad Training Room. This course requires two nights of class each week and will complete the first week of December (designed to match the end of the CNU semester). The next EVOC course is not yet scheduled but will be held within the next 30 days; this course takes only one weekend: a Friday night, Saturday and Sunday.
Working with our rescue squad is a tremendous opportunity and will give you life skills that you will always value. Every time you are on duty you have the opportunity to save a life…what can be a more meaningful way of serving others?
